Funeral services for Mrs. T.A. Thompson, 74, who died at her home in St. Ansgar, May 8, 1957 were held May 11 at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. I.Z. Hyland officiating.
Alma Marie Thompson was born April 12, 1883 in Nevada township, Mower County, Minnesota, the eldest daughter of Amelia and John Ostenson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Six Mile Grove congregation.
In 1905 she was united in marriage with Theodore A. Thompson. Seven children were born to this union; Melvin of Hazel Crest, Illinois; Alice (Mrs. Kurt W. Luethy) of Washington, D.C.; Edward of Salem, Virginia; Dean of Morton Grove, Illinois; Marie (Mrs. Werner Erickson) of Topanga, California; John of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; and Mildred (Mrs. Bernie Hansen) of St. Ansgar.
Alma Thompson lived most of her life on farms near Lyle, Minn., where she was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church; upon moving to St. Ansgar in 1951, she became a member of First Lutheran congregation. She had been in ill health for several years and suffered a broken hip a month ago. Although she was able to return to her home after corrective surgery, she grew progressively weaker and passed away quietly on May 8, 1957, at the age of 74 years and 26 days. Besides her husband, seven children and eleven grandchildren, she is survived by one brother, Alfred Ostenson of Lyle, Minn.; five sisters, Minnie, Elsie, Cora, all of St. Ansgar; Lillian (Mrs. A.B. Pederson) Mound, Minn.; and Esther (Mrs. R.B. Hammond) of Radcliffe, Iowa.
All the children were able to attend the last rites except Marie.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery. The Rev. Hyland was in charge of the committal services.
