A memorial service was held at the First Congregational Church (UCC) of Riceville on Thursday, September 11, 1986 for Lyle Dinger, who passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 9.

Lyle Dinger was born near Maple Leaf in Howard County, Iowa on July 15, 1903, the son of William and Christina Lockie Dinger. At the age of 15, after Christina's death, Lyle moved with his family to Breckenridge, Minnesota where he graduated from the Breckenridge High School. He later worked at farming, painting, selling and driving jobs in Minnesota and North Dakota, before returning to Iowa in 1940.

On June 3, 1944, he and Lauraine Miles, then of Chicago, were united in marriage at the Trinity Methodist Church in Denver, Colorado. At the end of the war, the couple came to Riceville where they spent the rest of their married life. Lyle worked at interior carpentry and cabinet-making.

Lyle was active in the community, serving as a local and county officer in the American Legion; as trustee, deacon and treasure of the UCC Church, and as a city councilman.

He is survived by his wife, Lauraine; four children: Glenn of Riceville; Larry, Herndon, Virginia; Jan Duggan, Cedar Falls, Iowa and John of Sapporo, Japan; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry, Rothssay, Minnesota; two sisters, Florence Dahnke, Rothsay, Minnesota and Opal Bohnsack, Anchorage, Alaska.
