Last Friday the mournful tolling of the bell of the Norwegian Lutheran church announced that the night before Mr. Erick O. Stovern had been released from his sufferings here on earth and had been called to the great hereafter. Mr. Stovern who was 76 years at the time of his death had showed the effects of old age for some time, and last summer had his leg broken by an angry bull. From this he never recovered sufficiently to be able to rise from his bed.

Mr. Stovern was born February 11th, 1819, in Norderhoug, Ringeriget, Norway. There he grew to manhood, and September 29th, 1845 was married to Randi Kittlesby with whom he was permitted to live for nearly fifty years. They came to America in 1851, stopping at Calmar in Winnesheik county, for three years and in 1854 they came to St. Ansgar township, where they resided for 41 years.

Ten children were born to this union of whom nine survive, his son Lauritz dying about three years ago at the age of 25. The surviving children are: Ole and Andrew who reside in Polk Co., Minnesota, Mrs. Stenseth of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Mrs. Rev. Sherven of Story City, Iowa, and Ed, Maren, Lizzie, Annie and Mary, who live at home.

The funeral was held Tuesday at the Norwegian Lutheran church, Rev. J. Olsen officiating. All of the children were present at the funeral with the exception of Andrew who was unable to attend.

St. Ansgar Enterprise

Note: Burial at First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa
