Manufacturing Company 29 Years
After being confined to his home less than a week, Edward T. Kilpatrick passed away this morning at 5:30 at his home, 909 Walnut street, death being caused by abscess of the liver.
For the past six weeks Mr. Kilpatrick had not been feeling well and a week ago Sunday and Monday he was so sick that he had to remain in bed. On Tuesday he again felt better so he went to work as usual at the Ferguson Manufacturing Company where he is employed as a machinist. That night he was worse again and since then his decline had been steady until this morning when the end came.
The deceased was born in Dunn County, Ireland, February 13, 1854, being in his fifty-sixth year. When three years of age, he came with his parents to this country, the family settling in northern Illinois. At the age of ten he accompanied his father and older brother to Mitchell County, Iowa, where they lived at Osage for a number of years. While there Mr. Kilpatrick was connected for several years with the Kelly Manufacturing Company and when that plant moved to Waterloo twenty years ago Mr. Kilpatrick, who was then foreman of the machine force, came with them and assisted in the reorganization, continuing in the employ of the company for a continuous period of twenty-nine years. For three years he had been with the Ferguson Manufacturing Company.
Surviving Relatives--
Mr. Kilpatrick was married June 20, 1875, at Osage, to Ella M. Fairchild, who survives him. Three children were born to them of whom one son died in infancy, those who survive being, George H. Kilpatrick, assistant in the city engineer's office, and Mrs. Fran L. King, also of Waterloo; three brothers and three sisters are also left to mourn, these being James H. Kilpatrick, Chicago; Mrs. Nellie Smith, Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Thomas Wanless, Chicago; John W. and Clifford M. Kilpatrick, Spencer; Miss Elizabeth Kilpatrick, Chicago.
Deceased was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Modern Brotherhood of America and also of Grace M. E. Church. Of a quiet disposition, he was interested chiefly in his family and his home, though to the organizations to which he belonged he gave a share of his attention. He was a man of modest, unassuming character and all who came to know him admired him for his sterling worth and Christian kindliness and gentleness. He heaves many friends here and at his old home in Osage, who will regret sincerely his unexpected passing.
Burial at Osage--
The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday morning and the body will be taken to Osage for burial. More definite announcement awaits word from the out of town relatives.
