Fern Ellen Ketelsen was born December 15, 1924 at Burr Oak township, Mitchell County, Iowa to parents Henry Jurgen Ketelsen and Ellen Dorothea Lundberg. Fern was the oldest of four girls. She graduated from the Little Cedar High School in Little Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Fern married Charles Earl Crites Jr on April 27, 1945 at Columbus, Fairfield, Ohio. The couple had 2 sons.

Fern (Ketelsen) Crites died April 28, 2004 at Sallisaw, Sequoyah, Oklahoma.

Fern Ellen Crites, 79, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, in Sallisaw. She was a homemaker, a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Sallisaw and the widow of Charles Crites.
Cremation is under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Sallisaw. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Crites of Urbana, Ohio, and James Crites of Gans; two sisters, Janet Bensend of Iowa and Virginia Powell of Florida; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her youngest sister Carole.

Fern's spouse, Charles Earl Crites Jr. was born November 28, 1917 at Cable, Champaign, Ohio to Charles Earl Crites Sr. and Stella M. Charles. He died December 14, 1996 at Sequoyah Memorial Hospital, Sallisaw, Sequoyah, Oklahoma and was inurned at Fort Smith, Sebastian, Arkansas.
