CHARLES CITY PHYSICIAN DIES AT 71

Charles City – Dr. Raymond W. Stober, 71, died Friday morning at the Cedar Valley Hospital.

Born in Greene, May 2, 1889, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stober. He was graduated from the Greene High School in 1906 and from the University of Illinois College of medicine in 1911. He served an internship at the Alexian Brothers Hospital and Lying-In Hospital, both in Chicago.

Starting practice here in 1916, he was in the same office on Main Street more than 40 years. He had been in his present office since 1957.

Dr. Stober and Dr. Julius Niemack bought the interest in the Cedar Valley Hospital in 1917 which had been owned by Dr. J. B. Miner and Dr. A. F. Kober. Dr. Stober was a veteran of World War I.

He was married January 1, 1921 at Riceville.

Surviving are his wife, a son, Raymond Jr., Burlington; a granddaughter, and a brother, St. Alvin M Stober, Waukegan, Illinois.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 3:15 p.m. at the Grossman-Hage Funeral Home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Dr. Raymond William Stober the son of Louis Johan Stober and Friedricka Wilhelmina (Koehn) Stober.

He married Lillian Estella Yager, the daughter of Henry Arthur Yager Jr. and Adeline “Ada” (Reynolds) Yager of Riceville, Mitchell Co., Iowa.

Lillian (Yager) Stober was born April 8, 1897 in Mitchell Co., Iowa. At the time of her birth the family was living in Jenkins, Mitchell, Iowa.

They had one son Raymond William Stober Jr. who was in Iowa on July 5, 1929 and died October 11, 1997 in Florida.
