Henry Winsor – June 18, 1812 – October 5, 1895
Henry Winsor was born June 18, 1812 at Finedon, Northamptonshire, England, the son of Libbeus and Sarah (Neal) Winsor.
He married Jemima Cook, the daughter of William and Sarah Cook, on April 24, 1834 in England.
Henry came to America around 1848 when he was 36 years of age. The following year his wife and children arrived. They lived for a short time at Port Jervis, New York, and about three years at Dunkirk, New York. They journeyed to the middle west around 1854 and settled near Dyersville, Iowa, where they lived until around 1859. Their final move was to Jenkins Township, Mitchell County, Iowa.
Henry wasn’t afraid of hard work. He came to America to better his position in life and to be an independent farmer rather than working for others.
He didn’t buy homestead land but chose land which had already been cleared for farming. No doubt there was still much work to be done on the land he purchased and in those days there was no machinery with which to do the work, therefore the farms were small.
Henry died October 5, 1895 in Mitchell County, Iowa and was buried at the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell County, Iowa.
