Stephen Radford (d: 1902)

Stephen Radford died at his home in Riceville, Iowa Sunday morning, January 12th of Bright's disease. He was one of the early settlers of this section having located about four miles southeast from LeRoy in 1855 where he resided until a few years ago when he and his family moved to Riceville.

The very sudden death of his wife on February 22, 1901 was a severe shock to him. Three sons and five daughters survive. Many other relatives and friends will miss this true and trusted man.

Interment will be at Riceville on Tuesday, January 14th.

Stephen Radford was born December 1829 in England, the son of James and Jane Radford. He married Edna Elliott, the daughter of John and Sarah Elliott. Edna was also born in England. She died from a fall down a flight of stairs, hitting her head and dying within 15 minutes.

They had nine children; three sons and six daughters;

(a) Herbert Owen Radford born July 15, 1855 in Illinois. He married Mary Emma Fairchild. He died May 27, 1940 in Guthrie, Oklahoma

(b) Fredric William Radford born July 1857 in Iowa. He died August 23, 1937 in Oregon. He married Lettie Lincoln. They are buried in the Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River, Oregon.

(c) Francis Adeline Radford born April 1859 in Iowa. She married Frank Brown. She is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.

(d) Lorena Albertina Radford born November 7, 1862 in Iowa. She married John Thomas Rutherford. She died July 19, 1930 in California

(e) Bertha J. Radford born 1866 in Iowa. (may have married a Hubbard)

(f) Emma Josephine Radford born November 4, 1869 in Iowa. She married Leander Reynolds. Josephine Radford Reynolds died December 17, 1946 in California.

(g) Grace Isabelle Radford born August 26, 1872 in Iowa. She married Darwin Bucknam. Grace died February 18, 1964 and was buried in the Riverside, Riceville, Cemetery.

(h) Roy Carlton Radford born July 10, 1875 in Iowa. He died November 1, 1945 in Minnesota.

(i) Laura Edith Radford born June 30, 1877. She married Arthur Page. She died January 29, 1958 in California.

Stephen Radford who became a resi­dent of Howard county in 1855, passed away at his home in Riceville, Sunday, January 12, 1902, aged 72 years 1 month and 11 days. Mr. Radford represented his town of Chester on the board of supervisors when that body consisted of a member from each township.

From 1855 until 1894, when the family moved to Riceville, he had been a resident on his farm near Chester. His children were all with him during his last illness and when the last sad rites were held over his mortal re­mains.
