ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Richard "Dick" Shave, 63, of St. Ansgar, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
A celebration of Dick's life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City. Visitation will be held two hours prior.
Richard Lee Shave was born October 14, 1948, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Lauren and Pauline (Bartels) Shave. He grew up in various towns throughout North Iowa, and earned his GED. He spent most of his life doing much of the same, moving often and meeting new friends along the way.
He worked various jobs and spent a lot of his life being self-employed. Dick will be remembered as a jack of all trades. He has resided for the past 10 years in St. Ansgar. Dick died doing one of his passions, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was always playing practical jokes and pranking his boys and friends.
He enjoyed collecting antiques, marbles and knifes. Dick was always on the lookout for wild asparagus and could spot it at highway speeds. He also liked to spend time outdoors fishing and taking trips to the casino.
Left to remember Dick are his two sons, Darren Shave of Mason City and Casey Shave of St. Ansgar; his mother, Pauline Shave of Charles City; an aunt, Alice; and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father; and one aunt, Evelyn.Memorials may be directed to the family. Donations can be made at www.giveforward.com and searching for Richard Shave Memorial.
