Obituary
Jean Wakefield, age 92, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday June 17, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Iowa. Jean Luella Harris was born May 25, 1920 in Osage, Iowa, to Ura ‘Clare’ and Charlotte (Armstrong) Harris. After graduating from Osage High School in 1939, she married Sidney Wakefield on September 1, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Sidney passed away on February 20, 2006. Jean enjoyed being a homemaker and mother.
She had many enjoyable summers going fishing up north on Pimushe Lake and visiting relatives, spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A member of First United Methodist Church and formerly an active and dedicated member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, Jean also belonged to Home Extension and the Mower County Senior Center. She moved to Faith Lutheran Home in Osage three years ago.
Survivors include her daughter Susan (John) Ryner of Rudd, Iowa; two grandchildren Michelle (Jason) Holst of Ankeny, Iowa, and Jayson (Sarah) Ryner of Nora Springs, Iowa; four great grandchildren: Josh and Ryan Holst, Jordan and Gavin Ryner; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Pat Wakefield of Dewey, Arizona, Ruth (Jon) Goldsberry of San Diego, California, Mary Hart of Fullerton, California, Ray Erdal of Maple Plain, Minnesota, Irene Wakefield of Blooming Prairie.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clare and Charlotte; her husband Sidney; a brother Kenneth Harris; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 20, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Austin with Pastor Marilee Benson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery [Austin, Minnesota].
