WATERLOO, IOWA - Mark D. Shoars, 58, of Waterloo, died at home Friday, Dec. 26.
He was born July 11, 1950, in Cresco, son of Dean and Helen Flugge Shoars. He married Carol Groen on July 29, 1972, in Waterloo.
Mr. Shoars graduated from St. Ansgar High School, St. Ansgar, and the police sciences program at Hawkeye Institute of Technology. He was employed by the FBI for a year prior to joining the Waterloo Police Department in 1972, retiring in 2005.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Tim of Janesville; a daughter, Mindy Fratzke of Waterloo; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; his mother; two sisters, Mary and Ruth; three brothers, Scott (Corrine), Dean (Sue) and Eric (Julie); and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Shoars.
Preceded in death by: his father; and a brother, Smith.
Public visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home. His body was cremated.
Memorials: may be directed to the family.
