Cora Elizabeth Haney, age 83, of Austin, Minnesota, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, due to complications from heart surgery.
Cora Elizabeth Heard was born January 2, 1922, in Carpenter, Iowa to Okie and Agnes (Petersen) Heard. She moved with her folks to St. Ansgar, Iowa. She attended Country School No. 6. She attended four years at St. Ansgar High School graduating in 1940, after which she moved with her folks to Austin, Minnesota.
In 1946 she moved to California to visit relatives, and it was there she met Howard Haney. They were later married on October 26, 1946, in the Presbyterian Church in Monrovia, California. Daughter Joan was born in Altadena, California in 1947. In 1948 they moved to Winterset and later Austin, Minnesota. In 1952 a son Dennis was born and later died. In 1954 Jean was born in Austin, Minnesota.
Cora became a member of Crane Chapel in 1956. She taught Sunday School for over 25 years and sang in the church choir for over 50 years and worked many funerals and weddings. She was a mail carrier for the Austin Post Office.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Goossen officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service. Organist will be Ernie Murphy. Vocalists will be Metz and Kathy Drew. Honorary Bearers will be Loren Stanton, Ray Klingfuss, Elmer Schwartz, Chuck Lindberg, Roger Baier and Wayne Heard. Casket Bearers will be Kevin Heard, Don Hodges, Larry Zirkler, Floyd DeVries, Don Hall and Vern Dunham.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard Haney of Austin, Minnesota; daughters Joan (Dennis) Bissen of Austin, Minnesota and Jean (Norbert) Eggert of Waltham, Minnesota; grandson Brent Bissen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; granddaughters Emily Eggert of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Betsy Bissen of St. Paul, Minnesota and Amy Eggert of Apple Valley, Minnesota; brothers Gilman Heard of Buffalo, Mo. and Jerry (Sue) Heard of Austin, Minn.; sisters Marion (Don) Ulven of Buffalo, Mo., Margaret (Kenny) Kirchner of Dexter, Minnesota., Charlotte Tucker of Midland, Texas and Dorothy (George) Drinkall of Phillipsburg, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son Dennis.
