Funeral services for Arthur C. Trettin, 73, of St. Ansgar were held May 25 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. O.A. Langehough officiating.

Arthur C. Trettin was born on March 4, 1883 in St. Ansgar, the son of William and Katherine Trettin. He was baptized March 26, 1883 in the First Lutheran church and confirmed by the Rev. John Landdeck April 3, 1898 in the Grafton Lutheran church.

His family moved to a farm south of Grafton during his early childhood and he received his education in the country and Grafton schools. In 1906 he took up a homestead in South Dakota and spent one year there. November 28, 1907 he married Minnie Hacker of Plymouth. They farmed in the Grafton vicinity for several years and then moved to north of Mason City where they made their home for six years. They then purchased a farm northwest of St. Ansgar and lived there for 28 years.

In 1949 Mr. Tretin retired and moved to St. Ansgar. In the fall of 1954 his health began to fail. He died at his home May 22, 1956. He is survived by his wife and a son, Orval; two brothers, Henry of Grafton and Edward of Clear Lake; one sister, Mrs. Sadie Hartwig of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and a brother, William. Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Retired Farmer to Be
Buried at St. Ansgar

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at First Lutheran Church at 2 p.m., for Arthur C. Trettin, 73, who died at his home here early Tuesday morning. He had been in failing health for some time.

Mr. Trettin farmed near Otranto for several years and retired to St Ansgar in 1949.

He is survived by his wife and a son Orville on the farm in the Otranto vicinity.

Burial will be in the City Cemetery here.
