Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28, 1988 at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, for Evelyn G. Newton, 59, of Little Cedar, Iowa. She died on Thursday, May 26, 1988 at her home. Rev. Hanson, of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Osage, officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Mrs. Newton was born December 29, 1928 in Butler County, Iowa, to Henry and Grace (Hovenga) Mehmen.

On January 12, 1947, she was married to Gordon Newton at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Mrs. Newton was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and the VFW.

[Survived by] ... Linda Newton-Young of Omaha, Nebraska; five sons, Allen of Little Cedar, Lyle and Dale, both of Stacyville, Denny of Osage, and Ray of Baltimore, Maryland; three brothers, John Mehmen and Rudy Mehmen, both of Charles City, and Henry Mehmen of Eagen, Minnesota; and by 13 grandchildren.
