TWO SONS OF FORMER MCINTIRE RESIDENTS, DIED IN SERVICE
Mr. and Mrs. Oakley McCloud, who for many years were residents of McIntire, have indeed made the sacrifice supreme. Their two sons, and their only children, have both lost their lives in the service of their county. Both were lieutenants in the air corps.
Relatives and friends from this county attended the memorial services for the young men last Sunday, held at McDevitte Chapel at Minneapolis. One service was for Lt. Merwin Kay McCoud, born at McIntire March 3, 1921, who passed away in the western European theater of war February 16, 1943.
He was reported missing after a raid over France. His ship was one of the six that did not return. He was posthumously given the Purple Heart and other decorations.
The second service was for Lt. Mason J. McCloud, who was killed when his plane crashed at the airfield at Wilmington, North Carolina. A friend who attended said that Lieutenant McCloud flew over the field apparently in trouble and could not make a landing. The watchers expected him to bail out but he failed to do so and crashed with the ship.
He was born March 4, 1924, at McIntire.
The young men's mother is the former Amanda House, also of the McIntire vicinity. Their father was in various business' in McIntire before he moved the family to Minneapolis in 1929.
