MELTONVILLE MAN
KILLED WHEN HIS
CAR OVERTURNED

W. B. Templeton Found Dead
Under Car Near St. Ansgar,
Friday

WAS 28 YEARS OLD, MARRIED

Steering Gear of Car Said To Be
Defective and Tracks on Road
Indicated That Car Had Slued from
One Side of Road to Other -- Burial
at Former Home at Ames.

W. B. Templeton,a young farmer living in Otranto township a mile and a half east of Meltonville, was killed Friday when the automobile he was driving overturned. There were no withnesses to the accident.

He was taking some tools and other equipment to a crew of men who were engaged in building a cement culvert south of St. Ansgar. The luggage was strapped on the side of his Ford car. It is said that the steering gear of the car, which was an old one, was defective, and it is probable that the driver lost control of the car, as his tracks indicate that he weaved back and forth in the road. Doubtless the extra weight on the side of the car made control doubly difficult.

Just south of St. Ansgar before the railroad track is reached on the route to Osage, the car overturned and Templeton was pinned beneath its weight. The top of the seat struck across his chest and cut off his wind.

Ernest Hansen was the first man to pass by the scene and he noticed the pile of wreakage. He saw that a man was pinned beneath the car and endeavored to lift the machine but was unable to do so. He went to a nearby farm house for help and returned as quickly as possible. The car was righted, but the man was dead within a few moments after the accident.

The body was taken to the Olson undertaking rooms in St. Ansgar, where funeral services were held. Interment was made at Ames.

Mr. Templeton was the son of a rich Ames resident. He was but 28 years of age. His wife survives him. He was a young man highly esteemed in Otranto and the community feels deeply its bereavement in his loss.
