ORCHARD BOY DIES
MONDAY FROM POLIO

Robert Dale Douglas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Douglas of Orchard, died on Monday, October 15,, 1945, at University Hospital in Iowa City, from infantile paralysis which affected his repiratory organs.

He fell while playing at the Orchard school on October 3, and suffered small scalp wounds that required medical attention.

After a few days he complained of a severe stiffness of the neck. He was under medical care during this time. On October 8, he was taken to a Mason City hospital and then on to Iowa City, where he died after spending four days in an iron lung.

Robert Dale Douglas, the only son of Elizabeth Scoville and Dale Ronald Douglas, was born July 17, 1936, at Orchard, Iowa.

Robert attended Orchard school and was in the fourth grade. He was baptized in the Congregational church at Orchard by the Rev. Stiles Lessly, April 3, 1943.

He is survived by his parents, his grandfather, Ora Douglas, of Orchard, and one sister, Elaine, age 2.

Funeal services will be held this afternoon (Thursday), at 2:00 at the Champion Funeral Home with the Rev. T. Solem officiating. Interment will be in the Stillwater cemetery near Orchard.
