Funeral services were held on Monday, December 3, 1984 at Champion Funeral Home for J.D. Hepner, 78, of Orchard, who died on Saturday, December 1, 1984 at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, in Osage.

Rev. A. C. Wegner officiated at the service and burial was in the Orchard Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Orchard American Legion Post 641. Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hepner was born on March 27, 1906, in Cedar County, to Roy S. and Myrtle (Barkhurst) Hepner. He moved to the Orchard area with his parents.

In October, 1953, he was united in marriage to Edna Doyle in Austin, Minnesota.

Mr. Hepner was a retired Illinois Central Railroad employee and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, one sister, and one stepson.

Survivors include a brother, Burdette Hepner of Osage and three stepgrandchildren, Larry and Lynn Doyle of Minneapolis and Mrs. Donald (Lorene) Hirsch of rural Charles City.
