Prayer services for Violet Arlene Bednar, age 63, of Osage, were held on Monday, October 1, 1984 in Champion Funeral Home in Osage, and graveside services were held on Tuesday, October 2, 1984, at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, Iowa. Rev. G. Hope of the First Baptist Church of Osage officiated at both services. She died Saturday, September 29, 1984, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
Violet Arlene Young was born on May 1, 1921 to Thomas and Amy Canedy Young in Debeka, Minnesota. She was united in marriage to E. C. (Chic) Bednar on September 12, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. They raised their family in Vinton and were active members of the Assembly of God Church there.
In 1960 they moved to Osage where Chic was a machinist for Osage Motor Supply until his retirement in March of this year.
Survivors include her husband, E.C. "Chic" Bednar of Osage; a daughter, Julia E. Jones of Mason City; two sons, Frank of Freeport, Illinois, and Kenneth of Waterloo, Illinois; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson; four brothers: Clarence Young of Queen City, Missouri, Oscar Young of Cedar Rapids, Robert Young of LaPorte City and Charles Young of Shellsburg; and four sisters, Julia Bell, Fern Kenney, Virginia Phillippe, all of Cedar Rapids, and Itene Warner of Vinton.
