Kenneth "Kenny" Portis

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Kenneth "Kenny" Portis, 76, of Riceville, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home 407 Woodland Ave., Riceville, with Raelonna Patrick officiating.

Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday April 4, at the funeral home.

Kenneth "Kenny" Portis was born on May 17, 1935, in Iowa City, to Joseph and Nettie (Latham) Portis. On Dec. 13, 1953, he married Marilyn Uilk, they later divorced.

Kenny married Judy Keeton on June 7, 1986. He worked for Martin Marietta drilling at the quarry for 33 years.

During his leisure time Kenny liked to fix up bicycles. He donated several bikes to charities and fundraisers every year. He enjoyed watching all of his children participate in events. Kenny was a very giving man and would do anything for any one, he had a heart of gold and will be missed by many.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Judy of Riceville, his children, Dale (LaVonne) Pedelty of Mason City, Connie Wagner of Woodlands, Texas, Barb (Bernie) Portis of Rudd, Larry (Helen) Portis of Nora Springs, Gary (Sonya) Portis of Davenport, Becky (Randy) Beenken of Titonka, and Tara Krukow of Riceville, grandchildren, Tom, Amy, Brandon, Brooke, Holly, Megan, Stephan, Amie, Amber, Katie, Andrew, Josh, and Jim, five great-grandchildren, his brother, Walter (Rose) of Mason City, and sister, Marion Dahlstrom of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jim Sweeney, brother, Don, and two sisters, Ruby and Sissie.
