Funeral services for Charles Brown, 84, a retired Riceville area farmer, will be on Wednesday at the Assembly of God Church, Cresco. He died on Sunday, May 20, 1984, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.

Rev. J. Biddle will officiated and burial will be in Riveside Cemetery, Riceville.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today at Champion Funeral Home, Osage.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; one daughter, Mrs. Victor (Nancy) Hall, McIntire; two sons, Elston, Chesapeake, Virginia, and Paul, Riceville; seven grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Floyd (Lola) Bird, Riceville, and one brother, Clifford, Charles City.

Charles Wesley Brown was born near Orchard, Iowa, August 20, 1899. He was the son of Wesley and Cora Hills Brown. He had two sisters, Laura and Lola, and a brother, Clifford.

Charles lived at home until his marriage to Irene Bird on August 16, 1933 at the Baptist Church in Riceville. They were the parents of three children. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary last summer.

Charles began his Christian live at the Lincoln Church near Orchard and was Sunday School Superintendent for several years and enjoyed ringing the bell to call people to worship. He was always a humble servant of the Lord. Three weeks ago he testified in church that he was ready to go whenever the Lord called him.

After attending church on Sunday, May 20, 1984 and enjoying a picnic lunch with his wife and son, Charles went to be with the Lord.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 23, 1984 at Assembly of God Church in Cresco, Iowa with Pastor John Biddle officiating. Pianist for the service was Stan Buchholtz and singers were Rev. and Mrs. John Biddle. Casket bearers were Larry Bird, Dale Bird, Gary Murray and Leonard Mayer. Honorary casket bearers were Ernest Asfahl, William Bahnsen, Howard Barret, Matt Gansen, Albert Lee, Paul Mayer, Joe McGovern, Obert Nelson and James Jordan.

Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Laura Brown Gaines.

Charles is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Elston of Chesapeake, Virginia and Paul of Riceville; one daughter, Mrs. Victor (Nancy) Hall of McIntire; seven grandchildren: Mrs. Nathan (Charmaine) McKinney of Caldwell, Idaho; Allyn Brown of Chesapeake, Virginia and Merri, Lorena, Charles, Cherish and Victor Hall of McIntire. Also surviving is a sister, Lola (Mrs. Floyd Bird) of Riceville and a brother, Clifford of Charles City; cousins, nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
