Nels (Nils) Anderson was born October 14, 1854 at Horgeneiet, Gran, Hadeland, Norway. He married Anna Maria Halvorsdatter Horgen on July 22, 1878 at Gran, Hadeland, Oppland, Norway. The couple emigrated July 25, 1878 to Clermont, Fayette, Iowa. They had 10 children:
1. Albert (born 1878 Clermont, Fayette, Iowa);
2. Martha (born January 29, 1882 Clermont, Fayette, Iowa, married Leonard Isaac Turnmire, died May 1952 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);
3. Lena (born 1885 Fayette, Iowa);
4. Henry (born 1888 Iowa, died 1967);
5. Oscar (born 1890 Iowa);
6. Gilbert (born July 5, 1893 Floyd, Iowa, married Stella Isabel Odden June 4, 1918 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, died May 24, 1969 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);
7. Alma Nellie (born October 10, 1896 Floyd, Iowa, married Oscar Richard Virchow before 1920 Iowa, married second to Weaver Clark);
8. Olga (born October 1899 Floyd, Iowa, married Lloyd Rucker, married Glen Godfry, may have married Arthur Noble Nelson after her sister Nora died, Olga died June 2, 1987 Decorah, Iowa);
9. Lester R. (born October 16, 1900 Floyd, Iowa, married Mabel Elnora Odden June 24, 1925 Mitchell, Iowa, died September 4, 1979 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa) and
10. Nora (born 1903 Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa, married Arthur Noble Nelson, died 1969 Iowa).

Family found in the 1880 and 1885 censuses living at Clermont, Fayette, Iowa:
1880: Nels Anderson 25; Anna Anderson 20; Albert Anderson 1. Farm Laborer.
1885: Nels Anderson 30, Anna Anderson 24, Albert Anderson 7, Martha Anderson 14, Dortha A Johnson 22.

Next found in the 1900 census living at rural Floyd County, Iowa:
Nels Anderson 45, Annie M Anderson 39, Albert Anderson 21 (born in Iowa); Martha Anderson 18, Lina Anderson 14, Henry Anderson 12, Oscar Anderson 10, Gilbert Anderson 6, Alma Anderson 3, Olga Anderson 7/12.

Found in the 1910, 1920 and 1925 censuses at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa:
1910: Nels Anderson 75 [should be 45], Anna Anderson 49, Gilbert Anderson 16, Alma Anderson 13, Alda Anderson 10, Lester Anderson 9, Nora Anderson 7.
1920: Nels 64, Anne 59.
1925: Mels Anderson 69, Anna Anderson 64, Olga Rucker 25, Kenneth N Rucker 1, Aldene Rucker 20

Nils Anderson died May 23, 1928 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. He was a farmer.
