MRS. SARAH COTTER
DIES IN CALIFORNIA(By Fred G. Fisk)
Again we are called upon to record the passing of a well-known and respected pioneer resident of Osage, Mrs. Sarah A. Cotter, who died peacefully on the morning of August 27, 1936, at the home of her son, Frank, here in Santa Monica.
Funeral services and burial were to take place on Saturday, the 29th.
Sarah A. Cotton was born May 30, 1842, at Athens, Pennsylvania, the daughter of D.B. and Julia Hicks Cotton, who came west to become pioneer residents of Osage.
She was married to Cyrus H. Cotter at Osage on September 25, 1861. Mr. Cotter passed away on June 25, 1915, at Osage. They were the parents of two children, Retta Cotter-Cutler, who died several years ago; and Frank, now living in Santa Monica, Calif. She also leaves four grandchildren: Frank, Walter and Victor Cutler, and Claire Cotter, Frank's son; and also two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cotter's two sisters, Eunice Theopald and Mary Hill, and a brother, Albert, preceded her in death several years ago.
Mrs. Cotter came to Osage with her parents from Pennsylvania many years ago, and lived most of her life in Osage, where the family was one of the best known and respected for many years.
Personally, we will miss her cheerful greetings and warm handshake that we have experienced since coming to California. Goodbye, old friend. We shall miss you, but realize that you are happier there.
