MUFFLEY
Wm. H. Muffley was born in Stubben county, N.Y. December, 18, 1837, and died at Osage, Iowa, September 17, 1898.
He spent his youth and early manhood in central New York. In 1862 he was associated with a regiment of Massachusetts volunteers in the South. In 1863 he came to Waverly, Iowa, where he resided six years. On December 4, 1869, he was united in marrige to Fannie Lashbrook, of McHenry county, Illinois. He at once came to Osage with his bride and resided here till his death.
For many years Mr. Muffley was closely indentified with the business interests of Mitchell county as a dealer in lumber and grain. He lived an active, industrious life, was upright and honorable in his business transactions, and was known as the poorman's friend. He was kind and loving as a husband and father of four children, all of whom survive him. For years Mrs. S. H. Mandell lived with Mr. and Mrs. Muffley and has always been regarded as a member of the family.
Two years ago the dire disease from which Mr. Muffley died made its appearance. For a year and a half he fought it patiently, heroically, hopefully. No one could have made a grander fight. He bore his suffering without complaining and was ever hopeful of recovery. His cheerful manner and power of endurance deceived his friends as to the progress of the disease. They hoped that he might live some weeks yet. During the last few days he failed rapidly. He told his friends that he loved and feared God. At noon on Saturday he quietly and peacefully passed away.
The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, under the direction of Rev. W.W. Gist. The relatives from Waverly were present.
