OBITUARY.

Mary E. Vrell, 89, of Milan, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012, at her home, in Milan.

Private Family visitation and funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial is at National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beacon of Hope Hospice.

The former Mary E. Pattyn was born November 22, 1922, in St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of Rene & Martha Pattyn. She married Jack E. Vrell May 1, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death May 17, 1965.

She was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years, retiring in 1985 as a Toolset Foreman, Building 299.

Mary was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. She enjoyed cooking, yard work and vacationing with her sister, Evona.

Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Sheryl Lynne & Cliff Montgomery, Coal Valley and Mary Ellen Vrell and fiancé, Edward Quinlin, Rock Island; son Ken Rene Vrell, Rock Island; grandsons, Brad (Janelle) Throne, Davenport and Jim (Summer) Vrell, Milan; great-grandson, Brody; sisters, Leona Kleckner, St. Ansgar, Iowa, and Irene Michaels, Osage, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her sister, Evona Sandberg.

A special thank you to Angel Howard, Davenport, Betty Dittmann, Milan, and Chrissy DeBuyser, Rock Island, along with Beacon of Hope Hospice, who helped keep her at home. Without their help, the family would not have been able to fulfill Mary’s wishes to pass peacefully at home. Also, very special thanks to Ann Mulvey for all the years of friendship, help and love Ann has given Mary for over 45 years. Thanks Ann.
