FLOWER
The passing of this woman of sweet and gentle spirit is deserving of more than format notice. Her life was helpful and her death serene.
Sarah M. Titus was born at Perrysburg, New York, October 16, 1831. She had fufilled in her life of three score years and ten all that a faithful mother could do for the advancement of her family and the interest of the church of her love. For early in youth she gave her heart to God and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.
Her marriage to Mr. Flower was New Year's Day 1851. Five children blessed the home but they are now scattered far and wide. She was on her way to visit her son in Washington D.C., stopping for a brief stay in Chicago, where, within a few days she was taken with typhoid fever and soon passed away.
The funeral service was held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mae Green, and was conducted by the pastor of the Congregational church. She was a woman of deep and abiding faith and for years has looked calmly yet humbly, for the close of her mortal career, which she well knew could not be far distant. With an awe, that was not fear, and a consciousness of demerit, which did not preclude confident hope, she awaited the opening before her steps of the gates of the eternal world.
Pastor Preston spoke of the positiveness of the divine life from the text: "And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good." Mrs. Flower was a woman of deep reverence and to her the Sabbath was inded the day of all the week the best and to her it was the emblem of eternal rest.
The beautiful hymn of Fanny Crosby "Some Day", expressed so much of the spirit of her life.
