DIED LAST FRIDAY IN
CHAS. CITY HOSPITALMrs. John M. Decker passed away last Friday morning at 7 o'clock at Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City, Iowa, where she had been for about a month for treatment, including a major operation.
She had been in failing health through the summer, and the hospital treatment was an effort to check a serious trouble.
The funeral services was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church at Little Cedar, conducted by Rev. H. M. Tiffany, of Fredericksburg, Iowa, and interment was made in the Little Cedar Cemetery beside her husband who preceded her last January.
OBITUARY.
Helen McPhail was born on May 21, 1868, to Robert and Mary Foster McPhail, on a farm in the Mitchell vicinity, and her early childhood was spent there.
On August 24, 1887, she was married to John M. Decker, and they established their first home on a farm near Stacyville. They lived there for one year, then moved onto a farm near David which they purchased. This was their home for 20 years, when they moved to Little Cedar.
They lived at different places in Little Cedar and vicinity for about ten years, them moved to a farm they had purchased east of Little Cedar, which ws their home until Mr. Decker's death. Early last summer Mrs. Decker moved to Little Cedar.
Mrs. Decker had been a member of the Little Cedar church for more than forty years, having been one of the charter members.
She is survived by one son, Ross, now in the general mercantile business in Little Cedar, his wife and daughter, Gloria. A daughter, Verna, died at the age of six. The husband and father died on January 1, 1936.
She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Julia Morrissey, Waterloo; A.J. McPhail, Little Cedar; Mrs. W. O. DeLaney, Stacyville; Mrs. S. E. Emerson, Little Cedar; and Jay McPhail, of Waterloo, Iowa.
