Adapted from "Huset Family" Mitchell County History, 1989:
Alma (Olson) Huset was born in Park River, North Dakota on April 2, 1890, to Bernt and Helena (Olson) Olson. In about 1896 the Olson family went to Norway for a few months, and then returned to the U.S.A. and settled on a farm about 3/4 mile west of Meroa. Alma attended school at Cedar Township School #7. The family were members of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Alma and Clarence O. Huset were both confirmed there May 28, 1905, and married there February 7, 1909. They lived in the St. Ansgar area, and then in the Rock Creek area on the Julius Olson farm.
In about 1914 they moved to a farm near Parkers Prairie, Minnesota. It was there that Leona (Estal) was born on January 3, 1912, and Clarice (Kalke) was born August 21, 1916, and also Kenneth who was stillborn.
They returned to Iowa in the early 1920's and lived on the Clark farm which was five miles west and one mile south of Osage. It was there Carmen A. was born February 27, 1923.
Later they moved to the Hartwig house which was about 1/4 mile east of the Roger's corner. It was there Merlyn was born on January 20, 1928.
From 1929-1935 they moved to the Herbert Norby farm, the Rock Creek Creamery house, and the Herbert johnson house. Then moved to the Kilde farm, and back tot he Hartwig house. During those years Clarence hauled cream from the surrounding area farmers to the Rock Creek Creamery to be used in making butter. He was also employed by local farmers.
In early 1939 he became very ill with ulcers, and his health was progressively hampered. On July 24, 1939 he died on his way to the doctor. He was laid to rest in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
Alma continued to live in the Ken Kramer house at 803 Oak Street. Later she moved to the large white colonial house on North Seventh Street. In about 1955 she was a resident patient at a Mason City nursing home, and in 1956 she was a resident at Kittleson Nursing Home in Osage. She fell and fractured a hip and was taken to University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. There she acquired pneumonia, and after ten days, she passed away on February 12, 1957 and was laid to rest in Rock Creek Cemetery.
