Louis Victor Bilharz – July 14, 1895 – September 28, 1957

RITES SET FOR FORMER BAILIFF

Charles City – Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Grossmann Funeral Home for Louis Victor Bilharz, 62, who died at the Cedar Valley Hospital, Saturday. Death was attributed to complications resulting from a heart condition.
The Rev. Edwin J. Arnold, pastor of the St. John Lutheran Church, officiated and burial was in Sunnyside Memory Gardens near Charles City.

He was born July 14, 1895, in East Lincoln Township in Mitchell County, the son of Louis O. and Lucinda Felkey Bilharz. He received his education in the rural schools in Mitchell County. On September 5, 1917, at Osage, he married Irma G. Hoisington.

He was a farmer until 1941. Since that time he has been employed at Dr. Salsbury’s Laboratories, had owned and operated a hardware business in Floyd and had serviced as bailiff of the Floyd County District Court until 1957, when his health forced him to retire.

He was a member of the Central Methodist Church of Charles City. He had served as a school director for 21 years, 18 in Mitchell County and three at Colwell in Floyd County.

Survivors include his wife; one son; Clair, Ionia; and one daughter; Mrs. Keith Newton, Bettendorf; 11 grandchildren; three brothers; Lester and Lorenzo, both of Charles City; and Lawrence, Armstrong; and one sister; Lelia Coonradt, Osage. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
