Funeral services for Halvor O. Hanson, 67, who died Monday, July 19, 1954, were held July 22 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. O.A. Langehough officiating.
Halvor Oliver Hanson, the youngest son of Colburn and Gunvor Hanson, was born November 24, 1887 on the Rust homestead north of St. Ansgar. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran church by the Rev. John Olsen.
Mr. Hanson went through the grade school in the Clyde rural school and later attended the St. Ansgar Seminary.
On November 24, 1909, he was united in marriage to Margaret W. Hansen of St. Paul, Minnesota. They lived on the Rust farm until 1941 when they moved to Carpenter where they were in the grocery business for two years. They moved back to St. Ansgar in 1943 where they have resided since. Mr. Hanson was employed in the maintenance office of the local REA for four years and also was rural mail carrier for several years.
The late Mr. Hanson was always active in community affairs. He was president and a member of the Clyde school board for many years. He also held offices of trust in the First Lutheran church, serving as deacon and trustee in the local congregation. He was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran church here. During the St. Ansgar Centennial last year he was on various committees that soponsored the activities of the 100th anniversary of the First Lutheran church.
Three years ago he submitted to major surgery at the Mayo Clinic and seemingly recovered from the operation. During the early spring his health began to fail and he again sought medical care in Rochester. He was up and about until the last two weeks before his death on Monday, July 19. He attained the age of 66 years, seven months and 25 days.
Halvor had a host of friends and was especially fond of children. He was known by many of the youngsters as "Uncle Halvor." He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one son, Hall Robert, daughter-in-law and four grandchildren; one brother, Henry Hanson, and one sister, Mrs. Blanche Hansen both of St. Ansgar, also many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Langehough in charge of the committal services.
