SUICIDE IN COURTYARD
Garnett - A 66-year-old man from the Harris vicinity was killed by a self inflicted shotgun blast in the chest at about 8:30 a.m. today in the Anderson County courtyard.
The man was identified as Ralph C. Kelly, by Police Chief Sam Geer who termed the death "definitely a suicide."
Geer and Forrest Millington of Kincaid saw the incident happen as he was sitting nearby in a pickup. Geer said Kelly leaned the shotgun against a tree, pulled the trigger and was killed from the resulting chest wound.
Some phases of the incident are still under investigation, Geer said. The man reportedly had two sisters living in the area, Mrs. Walter Lankard, Richmond, and Mrs. Esther Thomas, Westphalia.
The Ferris Funeral Home at Garnett, Kansas, will announce the date and time of the funeral services later.

#3:One Otranto letter contained an account of a most serious accident which happened at the home of A. C. Kelley west of Otranto on Monday of last week. It is stated that little Ralph, who will be six years old in November, was playing around the yard while they were unloading hay with the hay fork. Seeing the rope lying in coils around the yard he thought childlike that it would be fun to jump into the coil and then out. The man who was driving the (unreadable) did not see him and started the team up on a trot with the result that his little foot was caught in the rope and carried against the pulley with such force that the rope was an inch in diameter was broken entirely off. Of course the foot was terribly injured.
An attempt was made to save it, but symptoms of blood poisoning made their appearance and it was decided that his foot must be taken off and then it was not known that his life could be saved. On Thursday, Dr. O’Connor and Dr. Cobb amputated his foot and (unreadable) the blood poisoning. It is reported that he is now getting along nicely. But it is sad to think that the foot can never be restored and that he will have to go through life with one foot.

This forenoon, Dr. Blasdel, assisted by Dr. Munford, of Greeley, amputated part of a leg of the 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Kelley of Harris. When he was about six years old, it became necessary to amputate part of the leg, but he never fully recovered and the second operation was necessary - this time at the knee. Mrs. Kelley brought him down from Harris.

#5:Source - Unknown Newspaper 23 November 1912:
Master Ralph Kelley, who underwent an operation several days ago, is getting along fine. He received an injury to one foot when he was about 4 years old, and the foot was amputated.
Gangrene set in, and another amputation was necessary. Still later a third was performed. Recently, the bone protruded through the skin, and a fourth operation was necessary. This time the stump was taken off at the knee and the doctors are now confident that he will recover, and no further trouble is apprehended. Ralph is only 12 years old.
