Harley Floyd Wherry – September 13, 1918 – September 21, 1998

OBITUARY-

LE ROY -- The funeral for Harley Floyd Wherry will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Le Roy Lutheran Church with the Revs. Reginald Torrison and Tom Kolden co-officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Le Roy.

Mr. Wherry, 80, of Le Roy, a retired liquor store employee, died Monday (Sept. 21, 1998) of injuries suffered in an auto accident near Mabel.

Born Sept. 13, 1918, in Kensett, Iowa, he moved to McIntire, Iowa, at age 6 and lived there through his school years.

During World War II he served in the Army and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. On Oct. 10, 1942, he married Mary Crowe in Spring Valley. She died Jan. 30, 1973.

Mr. Wherry was employed at the Municipal Liquor Store in Le Roy for 30 years. He enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers.

Survivors include five sons, Thomas of Andover, Minn., Roger of Wayzata, Minn., Joe of Buffalo, Minn., Keith of Lime Springs, Iowa, and Douglas of Prescott, Ariz.; four daughters, Mary Margaret (Mrs. Kim) Elverum of Golden Valley, Minn., Barbara Wherry of Laredo, Texas, Jan (Mrs. Bob) Mason of Vancouver, Wash., and Frances (Mrs. Arthur) Caplan of Ogden, Utah; 18 grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph of Osage, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hutchins Funeral Home in Le Roy and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
