OLTMANN, Douglas L., Sgt. 1961-1986

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, 1986 at Champion Funeral Home in Osage for Army Sgt. Douglas L. Oltmann, 25, whose mother is a former Osage resident.

Sgt. Oltmann died on Saturday, June 28, 1986 in an auto accident in Virginia. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery with military rites at the graveside by an Army detail from Fort Sheridan, Illinois.

Sgt. Oltmann was born on March 4, 1961 in Waverly, Iowa. He was baptized in the St. James Lutheran Church, Allison and confirmed in Out Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanwood, Washington. He achieved the highest rank in Boy Scouting, the Eagle Scout and joined the Army in 1980 in Seattle.

While stationed in Germany, he married his wife, Brigitte. He was stationed at Vint Hill Farm Station, Virginia at the time of his death.

Survivors include his mother, Lois (Sheldon) Oltmann of Grinnell; his father, Leroy of Bristow; a brother, David of Grinnell; his wife, Brigitte in Germany; and his grandmother, Laura Oltmann of Allison, Iowa.
