Mary Annis Buttolph was born December 15, 1907 near Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa to Ulysses and Frances Buttolph.

Mary can be found in the 1910 and 1915 censuses at Jamestown, Howard, IA. living with parents and siblings:

1910: U S Buttolph 42[45], Frances Buttolph 36, Millie Buttolph 14, Robert Buttolph 11, Ralph Buttolph 8, Mary A Buttolph 2.

1915: Mary was 7 years old.

Found in the 1920 census at Jenkins, Mitchell, Iowa: U S Buttolph 52, Francis Buttolph 47, Mallie Buttolph 24, Robert C. Buttolph 20, Ralph Buttolph 17, Mary Ann Buttolph 12.

Mary Buttolph married Glendon G. Torney at probably Riceville, Iowa, about 1928 - 1930.

The couple had three sons:
Gaylord Torney (born April 3, 1930 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa, married Marilyn Wilson August 26, 1951 at Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa, married Doloris Helen Kruger September 15, 1990 Nashua, IA, died March 31, 2003 Riceville, Iowa);

Gary James Torney (born October 14, 1939 Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa, married Geraldine M. Taets May 5, 1962 Mitchell, Iowa, died November 16, 2010 Riceville, Iowa); and

Ronald L. (born September 11, 1936 Cresco, Howard, Iowa, married a Miss Walker, died February 27, 1998 Waterloo, Black Hawk, Iowa).

Mary died December 1975 at Mitchell, Iowa and is buried at the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa.
