HOME OF DAUGHTERFuneral services for Mrs. Christena Madsen, 89, were held Tuesday at the Dean Beckner home at Mitchell and at the Mitchell Lutheran Church, with Rev. T. Solem officiating. Burial was made in the Oak Grove cemetery at Mitchell beside her husband and daughter, Edith Lincke. Mrs. Madsen died of pneumonia on Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dean Beckner, at Mitchell.
Mrs. Madsen was born August 14, 1859 in Hjelland, Denmark. She came to America at the age of 20 years, and settled at Albert Lea, Minnesota, staying there a year and then moving to Minneapolis where she was a cook in a ladies' college for three years.
On December 21, 1884, she married Hans Madsen in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Mr. Madsen was in the tailor business. Five children were born to them. In 1899 they moved to Albert Lea, where they managed a hotel and later, in 1904, bought a hotel and moved to London, Minnesota. On August 15, 1915, they bought a hotel in Mitchell and restired after 12 years of business there.
She was a member of the Danish Lutheran Church of Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died on April 19, 1917; her daughter, Mrs. Edith Lincke, who died on April 10, 1932; and an infant son who died at birth.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a son, Martin C. Madsen of Austin, Minnesota; two daughters, Mrs. Fred E. Allen of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Dean Beckner of Mitchell; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Madsen is the last of her family, having had five brothers and two sisters, all deceased.
