AFTER LONG ILLNESSMilitary funeral services for Clinton M. Sparks, 51, of St. Ansgar, were held on Saturday at St. Ansgar, with the Rev. E. Pencook in charge, assisted by the members of the American Legion. Burial was made in the St. Ansgar town cemetery. Mr. Sparks died last Thursday at his home after being in ill health a number of years.
Clinton Mason Sparks was born Janaury 25, 1897 near Boone, to John and Safrona Sparks. He received his schooling and grew to manhood, assisting his father on the farm in the vicinity of Boone. In the spring of 1917 he went to the home of his brother, Justin Sparks, who was farming near Lyle, and was employed by him for a year.
He enlisted in the army in 1918 and served with the 7th company, Infantry Replacement and Training Troops at Camp Grant, Illinois. He was discharged on January 2, 1919, and on February 123, 1919, he was married to Josephine Peterman of near St. Ansgar.
In the spring of 1919 they settled near Boone, farming there for three years. It was here that their only son, Gerald Franklin, was born. In 1923 they returned to St. Ansgar where they farmed until 1928, retiring to town then because of his health.
He became seriously ill last Thanksgiving Day, and he grew steadily worse until his death on January 13, 1949. Mr. Sparks was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion.
