Succumbs After
Short Illness

Riceville, Iowa - Fred Harshbarger, 84, died Friday at the Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City, where he had been a patient one week.

Survivors are his wife, the former Mattie Crittenden; a daughter, Mrs. Vern Eldwood, Riceville and a son, Alden, McIntire. Another daughter, Mrs. Irvin Winer, was killed in an auto accident near Riceville last fall.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage. The Reverend Percy Bruns, of the Riceville First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Cemetery near McIntire.

NOTES:

He apparently remarried after his wife died. His first wife is not mentioned in the obituary, but she is on the gravestone next to him.

His second wife is also buried beside them. The second wife, Mattie, was not mentioned in the cemetery records on IaGenWeb but the stone has her year of birth and death.

Also, according to the gravestones placed around the main stone, they had twin daughters die in 1905, and an infant son die in 1911.
