Obituary
Halvor T. Thorsen was born in Gol, Hallingdal, Norway, on April 15, 1821. There he was baptized, confirmed and grew to manhood. He and his first wife whose maiden name Sigrid Blakkestad, emigrated America in 1852. For a part of the first year they stayed at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, where Mrs. Thorsen died. They had one child, Knut H. Thorsen, who lives northwest of town.
In 1853 Mr. Thorsen moved to St. Ansgar in company with other pioneers of Rev. Clausen's new colony.
Soon after he took the homestead which has been his home until death removed him from our midst.
In 1858 Mr. Thorsen married Birgit Olsdatter. They had four children, namely: T. H. Thorsen, Sarah H. Thorsen, O. H. Thorsen and Mrs. Lars Kittleson. The two first of these died several years ago.
Mr. Thorsen has enjoyed good health until a short time ago when he caught a cold which developed into pneumonia. He seemed to improve for a time but death finally ended his suffering on the 20th of October.
The funeral was postponed until October 25th, because of the sickness of Knud H. Thorsen who recovered so that he could be present.
The funeral took place at the N. L. church Rev. M.E. Waldeland officiating, and the remains were laid to rest at the N. L. cemetery north of town.
His two other children Ole H. Thorsen and Mrs. Lars Kittleson, as well as his wife, Mrs. Berget Thorsen were also present.
Other relatives present were: Bennie Helfritz, Lyle, Minn; Mr. and Mrs. A. Johnson, Mr. Theo. Running, Ole Running, Bert Running, and Mrs. O. Running, all of Lyle, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Hans Braaten and Ole Braaten of Blooming Prairie.

The following obituary was recorded in the St. Ansgar Enterprise and preserved in the scrapbook of his nephew, Ole O. HANSON of Northwood, Iowa in October 1910.
"Halvor T. Thorson (Sagabraaten) was born in Gol, Hallingdal, Norway April 15, 1921, where he was baptized, confirmed and grew to manhood. He was the third of four children born to Thor Halvorson and Barbro Halvorson. Halvor Thorson and his first wife, whose maiden name was Sigrid Blakkestad, emigrated to America in 1852. For a part of the first year they stayed at Rock Prairie, Wisconsin, where Sigrid Thorson died. They had one child, Knut H. Thorson who lived northwest of town. (Knut Thorson died in 1920.)

Thorson was 89 years, 6 months and 5 days at the time of his death, and was a member of the second generation which dated back to the birth date of his father Thor Halvorson (Sagabraaten) in 1784, and that of his mother Barbro Halvorson in 1788.
He had one sister, Ingeborg Thorson (Hanson) and two brothers, Knudt T. Thorson and Erick T. Thorson."
