CHARLES MAKEPEACE
DIED IN NEVADAILL LONG TIME -- BURIED AT LITTLE CEDAR TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Word was received here last Saturday that Charles Makepeace had died in Ely, Nevada, where he had been spending the winter with his daughter, Miss Verna, a teacher in the schools there.
Mr. Makepeace had been in poor health for some time, and it was thought the western climate would benefit him. The body was brought by his daughter to Lyle Monday, where they were met by the Odd Fellows lodge of Little Cedar, and escorted to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Herbert Penney, at Little Cedar. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in the family lot.
Charles Thomas Makepeace was born in Indiana on November 11, 1861, and passed away on February 14, 1924, at Ely, Nevada, at the age of 62 years, 3 months and 3 days. When he was eight years old he and his parents settled on a farm near Postville, Iowa. He lived there until 23 years old. On November 20, 1884 he was united in marriage with Ella May Bucknam. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Melvin Balsley of near Orchard, Iowa; Oliver of Osage, Iowa; Mrs. Herbert Penney of Little Cedar; Verna of Ely, Nevada; and Otis, attending college at Ames.
In 1887 he moved to Mitchell county and settled on a farm near Little Cedar, where he lived until five years ago. Being in poor health he moved to Osage. He lived here two years, and about three years ago went with his daughter, Verna, to Ely, Nevada. . . .
