Victim of StrokeWilliam R. Lack of Orchard died on October 26, 1945, at Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, following a stroke suffered October 19 while on his way to the Orchard post office for his mail.
William Robert Lack, youngest son of John and Sarah Wakefield Lack, was born at Syderstone, Norfolkshire, England, April 27, 1870. When a small child the family came to America and settled near Rockford, Illinois, and a few years later came to Butler County, Iowa, and from there to the Lack homestead four miles southeast of Orchard.
He received his education in the rural schools near his home. He was a farmer and farmed in Minnesota and Iowa until 1919 when he moved to Orchard, where he worked on the county roads.
Surviving are one sister, Mrs. C. E. Fairbrother, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and 15 nieces and nephews, including John, Howard, Julian, Robert, Harold, and Marilyn Lack and Blanche Tresemer of Orchard.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Champion Funeral Home with the Reverend H. R. Risse, pastor at Fertile, officiating. Burial was in the Orchard Cemetery.
