OLSON, AMUNDSON, DOKKEN

The tolling of the N.L. church bell last Friday afternoon announced a death and it was soon learned that another of Mitchell county's pioneer settlers had passed to her reward. It was Mrs. Guri Olson. The history of her sickness and death is a sad one. Last spring while busily talking to her son she went to sit down in a chair and missed it. The fall to the floor broke her leg and after that day she was a constant sufferer until death came to her relief. Loving hands did all possible to ease the pain and make her last days comfortable.

Mrs. Guri Olson, who died July 31, 1903 was born on the Golberg homestead, Hallingdal, Norway, January 24, 1820. In 1847, she was united in marriage with Endre Olson (Dokken). They lived at Hemsdal, Norway until the next year. Then they emigrated to the United States and settled in Rock Prairie, Wisconsin. Four years later they moved to Fillmore Co., Minnesota. In 1854 they located at St. Ansgar. The following year they built the house where they lived until their deaths. Mr. Olson died July 12, 1895. Of their seven children but two survive: Mr. Ole Olson and Mr. Amos Olson, both of St. Ansgar. The funeral services were held at the N.L. church Sunday afternoon. Revds. J. Olsen and M.E. Waldeland officating. There was a large assembly of friends and neighbors present at services to pay their respects to the departed. The remains were laid to rest in the N.L. cemetery, north of town.
