Bertha Mitchell - 1904-1987

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 25 1987 at Champion Funeral Home in Osage for Bertha Mitchell, 83, of Osage. She died on Tuesday, June 23, 1987 at an Osage nursing home. The Rev. J. Newland and Rev. John Gilbert officiated, and burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on January 14, 1904 in Mitchell County to Clinton and Ida (Barker) Carrison. She attended rural schools in Burr Oak Township, Mitchell county, and the Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage.

On February 20, 1924, she married Brodie B. Mitchell at her parent's home, rural Osage. They lived most of their married life in Mitchell County, Except for a short time when they lived in Illinois.

Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the First Baptist Church, Osage and the Faith Circle of the church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary; Grandmothers Club; and the Naturalist Club, Osage.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Brodie; one son, Lloyd; a grandson and a granddaughter; her parents; one brother and one sister.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Florence) Werner and Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Berge, both of Osage, and Mrs. William (Dorothy) Ehlke of Arlington, Minnesota; three sons, Clinton of Osage, Charles of Kensett, and Lester of Red Oak, Texas; 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Doris) Hoisington of Orchard and Mrs. Royden (Gladys) Putnam of Little Cedar.
