ROBERT NOBLE, PROMINENT RESIDENT, DEAD
WAS 88 YEARS OF AGE - HAD LIVED
IN MITCHELL COUNTY
FIFTY-EIGHT YEARSAnother of the few remaining of Mitchell County's pioneers has passed away. News of the death of Robert Noble, a venerable old gentleman, who for years had been a familiar figure on our streets, came as a shock to most of the many friends here, who knew that he suffered the usual ailments of old age, but did not know that his condition was critical.
Mr. Noble for twenty-five years operated and owned a farm in Pleasant Grove, near the schoolhouse at that place, but twenty-three years ago retired from active life, and moved to Osage, where he has since lived. At the time of his coming here, the community was in its first stages of growth, and he took his full share and responsibility for its development.
Robert Noble was born at Oul Well Cambrid Shier, Old England, May 1, 1836, leaving the homeland at the age of 17 for New York, and from there, went to Three Rivers, Michigan, where he was married to Cordelia A. Adams, on February 21, 1866.
To them were born four children: William J., of Platt, South Dakota; Dolly C. and Robert D., Osage; (the latter living three miles north on a farm) and Allwilda, who passed away in childhood.
Mrs. Noble preceded him in death eight years ago, on the same days the death of her husband, July 28, 1916, and since that time Miss Dolly has kept the home and given her father devoted care.
Mr. Noble was baptized and received into the Church of England.
Funeral services were held from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Reverend Jennie Hitchcock, and burial was made beside his wife.
