Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Ottis of Kindred, North Dakota, were conducted in St. Ansgar at the First Lutheran church on Thursday afternoon, July 19, 1945. The Rev. Olaf A. Langehough was in charge of the obsequies.
Martha Ottis was born near Decorah, Iowa, on April 1st, 1856. On February 10, 1881, she was married to Knute Hamry at Carpenter, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, two passing away in infancy. Mr. Hamry died in September, 1885.
In the spring of 1890, Mrs. Hamry moved to Kindred, North Dakota, and was married to Sam Ottis on February 7, 1892. To this union three children were born. Sam Ottis died November 10, 1919. Two sons have also preceded their mother in death. George Ottis died in 1937 and John Ottis in 1944.
Mrs. Martha Ottis passed away at Kindred, N.D., on Friday, July 13, 1945, at the age of 89 years, three months and 13 days.
Surviving are four sons, Rudolph Hamry and Sophus Ottis of Kindred, N.D.; Elder Ottis of Abercrombie and Melvin Ottis of Grant's Pass, Oregon, and two stepsons, Louis Ottis of Kindred, N.D., and Ben Ottis of Wyndmere, N.D. Surviving also is one sister, Mrs. Elling Ellingson of Carpenter, Iowa.

Martha (Knudtson) Hamry Ottis

Martha Knudtson was the daughter of Even Knudtson and Gerhardine (Steile) Knudtson.
Her first husband was, Knudt R. Hamry, born March 24, 1856 — died September 25, 1885; buried First Lutheran Cemetery, Saint Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
They had only one son; Rudolph Hamry who was born December 1, 1884 and died December 1968 in Kindred, N. Dakota and is buried in the Kindred Cemetery.
Her second husband was Soren J. “Sam” Ottis born August 13, 1841 in Denmark; died November 10, 1919 in Kindred, Cass, North Dakota. (He had a first wife, Kari Olson, who is also buried there).
Her three sons by Soren Ottis were: Elder, Sophus and Melvin.
There were 4 stepsons; George, John, Louis and Ben.
