Funeral services for Clarence O. Olson, 80, who died at the Veterans Administration hospital in Knoxville March 5, 1973, were held March 9 at the Schroeder & Dunn Funeral Home here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad pastor of First Lutheran church officiating.
Clarence Oliver Olson was born in St. Ansgar July 5, 1892, the only son of Julius and Caroline Assorson Olson. He received his early schooling in the St. Ansgar schools, and later was engaged in concrete work with his father.
On February 22, 1918 at the age of 25 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served as a private in Battery C, 304th Field Artillery with the American Expeditionary Forces in the Chateau Thierry-Argonne area of France, receiving his honorable discharge May 17, 1919.
Following his discharge from the Army he made his home with his parents. He was a member of the Walter T. Enneberg Post 358 of the American Legion in St. Ansgar. Due to ill health he entered the Veterans hospital in Knoxville in 1940 where he was cared for until his death.
Mr. Olson was preceded in death by his mother in 1942, and his father in 1953. Survivors include the following cousins: G. Marlin Assorson of San Pedro, Calif.; Emil Stovern of Princeton, Minn.; Mrs. Rachael Amundson of Clear Lake, Wis., Miss Viola Stovern of Waukeegan, Ill.; Henry Peterson of Pipestone, Minn.; Willie, Kenneth and Norma Peterson of Canby, Minn.; Marlin Frisa of Porter, Minn. and Robert D. MacDonald of Eau Claire, Wis.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of the committal services. Military honors were presented by the Firing Squad of the Walter T. Enneberg Post 358 of the American Legion. Squad members also acted as bearers.
