SYLVIA COLTON OF OSAGE DIES
NEVER AWAY FROM HOME MORE THAN A DAY; LAST OF FAMILY
Osage – Sylvia Colton, 69, last of her family, died at her farm home near here Thursday.
Born in Floyd county, Miss Colton never had been away from home for more than a day with the exception of a day and a night’s visit in Wisconsin.
She and her sister, Sophronia, lived together on the farm after their parents died. When Sophronia died three years ago, Suylvia was left alone.

Osage – Funeral services were held at the Colton farm home near Orchard Saturday afternoon for Miss Sylvia Colton, 69, who died Thursday at the home where she had spent her entire life.
Sylvia Colton was born in Floyd County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Colton, pioneer residents.
Miss Colton is the last of the family of five children. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery.

Sylvia Colton Died
Thursday Morning
at Home, Orchard
Miss Sylvia Colton, 69, passed away at her home a half-mile north of Orchard this morning, after a few weeks illness. Miss Colton was born in Floyd county, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Colton, pioneer residents.
She held a unique record for continuous residence in this county, as when she was seven years of age, her parents moved to the farm upon which she died, and outside of a night spent on a visit into Wisconsin, she was never away from her farm home for more than a day.
Miss Colton was brilliant mentally, and was interested in her community and its affairs. Following her parents' death many years ago, she and her sister, Miss Sophronia, operated the home farm. The latter passed away about three years ago.
The deceased is the last of her family. Her sister, Ann Colton, died when a young woman, another sister, Mrs. Alfred Chatman, a few years ago, her brother, Ben, died about 15 years ago, and another brother, Richard, about a year ago.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon from the farm home and burial made in the Orchard Cemetery.
