Theodore D. Smalley passed away at his home Thursday evening, after a long illness, and Saturday was buried in the local cemetery. Mr. Smalley had lived in Mitchell County fifty-three years, consequently is known to most of the residents here, and is one of the last of the Civil War veterans.

Theodore D. Smalley was born on November 20, 1845, in Windsor County, Vermont and passed away June 13, 1924, at his home in Osage, Iowa.

In 1865 he came with his parents to Mitchell County, and outside of about three years while in the war, and three years spent in Missouri has lived in and near Osage, and engaged in the occupation of farming until moving to town in 1923.

He enlisted October 12, 1865, at Osage in Company B, Sixth Regular Iowa Cavalry, and was discharged November 1865 as corporal.

June 3, 1869, he was married to Mary C. Harris, and to them were born four sons, Chester E., of Orchard, Iowa; Eugene E., Harlie E., and Elmer R., Osage.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Saturday afternoon.

He is survived by them and his widow.
