Mr. Klaes had been ill for about a year, but until recently has been actively engaged in the operation of the business. About a month ago he was forced to give up many of his activities, however.

For many years Mr. Klaes was in the construction business and had engaged in farming before he moved to Guttenberg to take over the business.

Surviving Mr. Klaes are Mrs. Klaes and their two children, Mrs. Gilbert Barnhart, Jr., and Robert Lee, both of Guttenberg. Also surviving are four brothers, Theodore of Osage, Henry of Wilton Junction, Anthony of Woodward and Matt of Riceville; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Hughes of Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Jess Donner of Osage.
