Christian burial was given to John Ring on Friday, March 3, 1967.
John George Ernest Ring, the son of August and Minnie (nee Kliem) Ring, was born in Howard county, Iowa, on November 25, 1895. John was baptized on February 2, 1896 by Pastor Hemann of St. Peters's Lutheran Church, and was confirmed on April 5, 1914 by Pastor K. Rudolph. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
John served in World War I and was a member of the American Legion and Quartermaster of World War I Veteran's Baracks. For 40 years he worked as a mechanic, being employed many years at A & H Motors in Riceville. He served 30 years on the Riceville Fire Department, a number of years as chief.
November 1, 1923, he married Lillian Schwacke at the Elma Lutheran Church by Pastor Bonosky.
On Monday afternoon, February 27, he was stricken with a heart attack and passed away at the age of 71 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian; seven children: Marvin, Roberta (Mrs. Lorell Christensen) and Kathryn Taylor of Riceville; Lois (Mrs. Gene Ankrum) of Stockton, Minnesota; John of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Elmer of Agzna, Guam; and Sharon (Mrs. Harold Erath) of Winona, Minnesota. Also, seven brothers and sisters: Emil, Harry, Clarence, Lizzie (Mrs. Walter Miller), Anna (Mrs. Fred Utesch), Lena (Mrs. Marvin Kruger), all of Riceville, and Charles of Tacoma, Washington. Surviving are also 22 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and a daughter.
Burial was in the church cemetery south of town.
