Gerald M Acker…May 28, 1948—May 3, 2010

Gerald M. Acker, of Barker, New York, formerly of Iowa, entered into rest Monday, May 3, 2010 in St. Joseph's Hospital, Cheektowaga, New York.

He was born in Elma, Iowa May 28, 1948, the son of the late Merlyn and Velma Worple Acker.
Gerald was a US Navy Veteran serving his country in the Vietnam War 1972-1974, he served on the destroyer USS Hanson #DD832. He last worked in the maintenance department at the National Park in the State of Washington.

Gerald moved to Barker 2009, coming from Iowa. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and wood crafting. Father of Melisa (Chris) Blackmer of Niagara Falls, New York, Marcia (Marc) Patronski of Gasport, New York, Gerry Acker and Becky Acker both of Fort Myers, Florida, Tomoko Reed of Iowa, Nathan, Aaron and Margaret Acker all of State of Washington. Dear friend of Virginia Shriver of Iowa and Debra Acker of Fort Myers, Florida. Brother of Jim Acker of Iowa and Gary (Mary) Acker of Kansas.

Also survived by six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, New York, THURSDAY 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Gerald was the son of Merlyn Acker and Velma Worple. His mother is buried in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa.
